I believe that's one of the most useful parts of Copland: a brand spanking new I/O & file system that are completely native and designed to be fast and asynchronous.

The most noticeable upside for most people will be watching both disk lights blink at the same time while copying files from one drive to another. The copy time will be limited by the bandwidth of the slower drive instead of being the sum of the read time on one and the write time on the other.

The big downside is that all I/O drivers need to be rewritten (can you say Windows 95?).

Maybe it would be better to delay Copland to put a native file system into system 7.5. Don't know.
