Dave, from out here it looks obvious. I suggest that you find a new platform. See You In The Market!

I've been on SunOS for over a decade. Sun fucked up. They got a Solaris bee up their ass. Half their customer base still runs SunOS. They are doing everything they can to make life painful for those people. They are trying to force us to switch. We will, but not to where they want us to go.

I'm switching platforms. Linux is where I'm going. www.linux.org. One of the great things about Linux is that we, the developers, are also building the operating system, whenever we choose to. There's no arrogant vendor in the way; in fact, the Linux vendors are kinda meek because there's half a dozen of them and they have to compete with each other. As developers, we can build on top of Linux, or we can build right into Linux, whichever suits us at the time. Last I heard, there are more than a million users and 40,000 more copies a month go out. You can buy it on CDROM at Printer's Inc for $20, or you can download the whole thing from the net. Or you can pay more for a version with tech support and stuff. Check it out!

It would be great if people like you could teach Linux what you know about ease of use and easy powerful tools for naive users, from having built up the Mac platform in those ways.

John

PS: An Apple skunkworks project just released MkLinux for PowerPC Macs. See www.mklinux.apple.com. Linux started on 386's, but now runs on almost any hardware worth owning.
