cactus picture RE: SEE YOU IN THE MARKET

Dave,

You were absolutely right on with this last piece. I have always been totally aggravated that Apple spends hundreds of millions of dollars on software that won't ever come to market, or won't work as well as third party stuff, while the nuts and bolts are rusting away. I agree with your issues here, and have my own list as well.

If Apple could build even decent software, it might be a different story -- but they've proved over and over, with rare exception, that they cannot.

Witness QuickDNS versus MacDNS -- no comparison between the products, but with Apple shipping MacDNS, everyone who runs an Apple server will wonder why it is so bad. And QuickDNS likely won't be profitable enough to support as a third party -- it is awfully hard to sell many replacement radios when the car comes with one.

The best internet strategy for Apple would be to make sure they can talk to the Internet reliably (still needs work, wouldn't you say?), put this in every box, then get out of the way. Hell -- the best strategy everywhere...

Best, Tim
