Interesting I should read your piece right after I read this week's PC WEeek Editorial concerning the use of parts. Your view is of the power user and developer. PC Weeks view is of the problem IS departments will have supporting users who are busily downloading the latest parts on a daily basis.
If the newest part doesn't work with the rest of the user's suite, where does s/he go? Controlling the user's access to the "latest" obviates the advantages you tout. Allowing access could be an organizational nightmare.
