cactus picture RE: APPLE AND INTERNET CONFIG

Hi,

I read your column often & find it very interesting. I'm a small Macintosh shareware developer, and when I was out at WWDC ths year I tried to get the scoop on the future of Internet Config.

Some notes:

- Most of the Internet related Copland demos were using Internet Config (in a few of them, they actually had IC running along with Netscape Atlas beta.) So we know it works, today.

- I cornered Quinn "The Eskimo" who is coauthor of IC and now an Apple employee (and a really nice guy, by the way.) He said that I would be safe adopting IC support in my applications, and if there was a replacement technology in Copland, he didn't know about it.

It makes sense that Apple would want to build IC functionality into their OS, especially since IC is based on obsolete Quicktime Components technology. Still, it's sad to see them continually steamrolling the 3rd party developers. If you get definitive info, please post it in your column.

Take it easy,
