Cheerio, EuanFriday, June 08, 2007 by Dave Winer. And to my new Scottish friend, Euan Semple, who expressed amazement that I still remember and talk about the Guardian piece written by Ben Hammersley about RSS. There's a reason why I haven't forgotten and still talk about it, because they haven't retracted. And as far as I know, there's no statute of limitations on breaches of integrity. You can't wait the clock out on these kinds of things. In other words, when one presents such a hatchet job as news, you gotta wonder what else they do that's sloppy and mean (and not news). I'm told the Guardian is the best of the best, integrity-wise, in Europe. Now I'm pretty sure Euan will hear what I'm saying, and know that I'm not a bad person, I just am something of an idealist. I want my heroes to be worthy of respect. I want someone in the professional media to care about their reputation. I'm told the Guardian is such a publication. So, until they take their medicine, their rep will still be pretty negative with me, and when people tell me they think they're a great pub, I'll say hmmm, maybe not so great. |
